WinterKids is the only nonprofit in Maine dedicated exclusively to increasing outdoor physical activity in children and families during our longest, most sedentary season, offering programs and resources to teachers, families, and children in every corner of the state to encourage healthy lifelong habits.

Our Guide to Outdoor Active Learning is a great resource for educators! This cross-curricular binder for elementary teachers provides lessons aligned to Common Core and Maine Learning Results. Check out this binder for easy-to-implement ideas to get students outdoors moving and learning!
Our WinterKids Winter Games is a 4-week, physical activity and nutrition challenge, adapted for hybrid and remote learning situations. Taking place in January 2021, this program will provide fun, engaging activities with a focus on what children HAVE and CAN do in a time when they are often reminded about what they don’t have.

We are including quick outdoor activity ideas, "breath" breaks, tips to build resilience and more! We are offering incentives (WinterKids Guide to Outdoor Active Learning for teachers, and wrist bands, stickers, buttons, etc. for kids) as well as weekly raffle prizes for both teachers and students. Each classroom and their families will participate in outdoor physical activity and nutrition challenges. We will provide incentives, prizes and fun, easy to use PLAYbooks for families at home.

Our WinterKids App is a great resource for active families or families that want to get more active. It's a digital coupon book with dozens of free or discounted opportunities for kids to be outside and active during the winter with their family.
A family membership to the WinterKids App covers a family of 5 for the whole year!
What do you wish more people knew about your organization and the work you do?
Our WinterKids App has deals for kids up to age 17! There are dozens of offers for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, tubing, ice skating, downhill skiing, retail discounts and more! A family membership covers a parent and up to 4 kids for the whole year! New offers are added each week!
What do you love about your work with WinterKids?
I love seeing kids find their passion for the outdoors. Stoke the stoke! Having a passion to be outside year-round builds a healthy appreciation for nature and ourselves. I love that we have the ability to create opportunities for kids to find a new passion.
How has Community Learning for ME helped the WinterKids?
Having the ability to share our info with educators and families helps us spread our message and get more kids, families and educators involved in our programs.
